South Shields FC Ladies was founded in June 2013 to give young women over 16 in the town and surrounding areas a chance to develop their footballing skills and be part of a new and exciting team.

Founder and Manager Stephen Lester realised there were a large number of girls coming out of junior football with limited opportunity to progress into a senior team and continue their football education. He was surprised that a town the size and with the footballing history of South Shields didn’t have a senior ladies team.

Our players are currently aged 16 to 31 and come from various backgrounds and locations across the region including South Shields, Hebburn, Sunderland, Durham and Newcastle.

We are fully affiliated with South Shields Football Club who, with the ladies now run teams from tots to seniors with FA Charter standard status. Although informal and fun, our club does believe in the core basic skills for running a rewarding and safe environment for players to thrive with dedicated FA qualified coaches and club welfare officer attending both training sessions and games.

Although only in existence for three seasons we have enjoyed two successive promotions and last season expanded to a second ladies team which gives even more opportunity for women in our area to get involved. The club now competes in both the Durham Women’s League and North East Regional Women’s leagues. We are always on the lookout for new players to grow and improve the existing squads and also increase the number of our teams. A third team would be great!!

As a self-funding and non-profit organisation we are actively looking for sponsors to get involved and help support the club. Running the teams is a very expenses hobby, so any help with this would be greatly appreciated. It’s a fantastic way for businesses to help and get involved in the community. We have our Facebook, Twitter and website pages available for advertising. The club sites are read by thousands of local people and we enjoy the close relations we build with our sponsors.

If you want to join or get involved with the new home of Ladies football in the North East whether as a player, coach or sponsor please get in touch via our contact us page. We’d love to hear from you!!
